World Taiji and Qigong Day

Saturday, April 27th, 2024, 9am to Noon there will be a local celebration of a global event known as World Taiji and Qigong Day. YMAA Taijiquan of Wisconsin's version, will be held at Lake Park Lutheran Church, 2647 North Stowell.  Free and open to the Public, no previous experience necessary. Your participation encouraged. Registration materials for sign in at the front desk. You will be assigned an animal guide for 5 Animal Sports. From 9-10 there will be a long warm up, followed by Stationary Qigong sets, including sections of Spinal Qigong, White Crane Soft Qigong, 8 Pieces of Brocade, Primary Qigong Set and Coiling Qigong set.

5 different Animal guides (YMAA Students) will lead  participants in 5 Animal Sports, a Qigong for Health, Moving Set, which will be performed  in groups of 10. Depending on what Animal you registered for, at the door, the first 5 Participants for each Animal will recieve a color coded t-shirt to wear in the performance.

The last hour of the event will consist of demonstrations by YMAA students and Instructor Angela Laughingheart. Yang Style Taijiquan, Mirror Image Tai Chi Ch'uan, Taiji Saber and other training classics.

Five Animal Sports/Qigong for Health

Do you ever enjoy watching videos of wild animals portrayed in their natural element and admire how they stay healthy under harsh natural conditions? Would you like to learn some gently stimulating exercises that help you dissolve stress and tension and regulate your natural body functions towards a normal state? 5 Animal Sports is a Classic of Traditional Chinese Qigong that will help you to do just that. The movements, which embody the essence of the Tiger, Deer, Bear, Ape and Bird are linked to the Liver, Kidneys, Spleen, Heart and Lungs and are designed to help soothe and restore your system, without fancy equipment or grueling workouts. 5 Animals Sports is similar to Taiji, but more repetitive. It employs graceful movements that allow you to tune into specific inner dynamics of your body.  Each of the Five Animals is associated with a pair of organs and the Qi Meridians that connect to those organs. Five Animal Sports is movement based medicine, which supports improved circulation of the energy system. See the table below for some of the correspondences:
